Jindabyne also known as Jindy, is the gateway to the Snowy Mountains. It is less than three (3) hours from Canberra and just over a 6 hour drive direct from Sydney.
Jindabyne is located on the banks of the Lake Jindabyne. During the winter months the hills are capped with perfect snow fit for any skier, novas or advanced. The slopes at either Perisher Blue or Thredbo are by far the closest at only 30 mins away. You can drive to Thredbo via the Alpine Way, to Perisher Blue via Kosciusko Road or you can simply just take the Ski tube. It you don't wish to ski everyday, there are many other attractions that Jindabyne has to offer such as Lake Jindabyne Cruise, the Eucumbene Trout Farm and Hatchery, horse riding, the Snowy River Winery, Kayaking and White Water Rafting, Mountain Biking, Guided Walks, Water Skiing and Yarrangobilly Caves Tour.
Having the Kosciusko National Park right at your door stop is like having an abundance of wildlife at your fingertips. The Kosciusko National Park is the heart of Australia's Snowy Mountains. More than three (3) million people visit the park each year to explore and to take part in the many activities that it provides, ranging from bush walking, mountain biking, snow skiing, caving and camping. On board Australia’s highest cruise boat the MV Kalinga, you will be in oar of Lake Jindabyne. With tea and coffee provided all you have to do is sit back and relax. They also provide a lunch and twilight cruise for all those couples that want a romantic time away.
Take a guided tour of the Eucumbene Trout Farm and Hatchery and see all stages of growth as you wander through the hatching and growing areas. And for the keen fishermen, catch a mountain trout…. Guaranteed, in the "Sure Catch" fishing pond, and never have to worry about the weather as it is in an all weather under cover area.
If horse riding is more your style then the Snowy Mountains horse riding on Alpine Way, offers one, two or three hour rides to suite all rider standards. Overnight and day rides are also available. With the advantage of being open all year round, it is only five minutes from the ski tube towards Jindabyne.
Depending on seasonal river flows, kayaking and white water rafting is a must while staying in Jindabyne. Put the paddle in your hands and take a guided introductory or advanced river adventure to get a real taste of the beautiful snowy mountains. Mountain biking in the warmer months, if for all ages and abilities. With a number of mountain biking adventures, the experience of the thrilling Cannonball Run in one not to be missed. Or if a little slower paced is more your style there are tours of the area with instructors and guides.
Lake Jindabyne offers many sports to be done on its waters one of which is the thrilling sport of water skiing. Bring your own boat and equipment or organise it through experienced instructors with all safety equipment provided, wet suites, water skies, wakeboards and kneeboards etc. But if you are really just wanting to take everything in your own stride strap on your walking shoes because you are on the doorstep of one of the greatest national parks in Australia. Just around the corner from Jindabyne are the Yarrangobilly Caves. You can tour these caves either by yourself or with a guide.
As well as outdoor activities, you have access to two (2) shopping centres, supermarkets, liquor stores, chemist, newsagent, bookshop, bakeries, souvenir shops, banks, ski and clothing hire outlets, post office, video shop, cinema, cafés, restaurants, night clubs, medical centre and an indoor heated pool.
