During summer temperatures can reach up to a very comfortable 29 degrees and during winter it can fall to around 13 degrees. The occasional cyclone comes close to the island but more often than not it just travels out to sea before every hitting the island.
Mobile phones don’t work on the island as it is out of range from the nearest station, but public telephones are scattered all throughout the island if you every need to use one. And if you are looking to hire you own car, though a majority of the locals and visitors ride bicycles, you should organise the hire of a car before you arrive on the island. And one thing to remember is that live stock have right of way if you are driving around and if you pass someone you must always wave in delight... this is called the “Norfolk Wave”.
You can easily catch a flight from either Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney or Melbourne that will take you directly to the island on Norfolk Air which is a Boeing 737. Or if you are coming from New Zealand then Air New Zealand does runs on Wednesday and Sundays that travel directly to the Norfolk Island.
