Located in the Kosciusko Park, Thredbo is only a 2 and a half hour drive south of Canberra and a 6 hour drive from Sydney. Once you reach Jindabyne, the gateway to the mountains, you are only 31 kilometres away from Australia's longest skiing runs. There are so many ways to get to Thredbo, you can fly, go by bus or self drive. Most airlines service the Canberra Airport from all the major Australian cities and then you just catch a plane to the Cooma Airport which is approximately 1 hours drive from Thredbo. Then just relax as you catch one of the coach transfers to your preferred accommodation. All bus lines will drive you directly to Thredbo or if you would rather do it all at your own pace, you can hire a car from anywhere is Australia. But you must always make sure that you have properly fitter snow chains just in case there is heavy snow fall while you are there. You will also need to contact the National Parks in Jindabyne to organise your Park Entry Fees before you make your way to Thredbo. The costs are $27 / day / car or $190 / annual pass. This can be paid at the Gates or at the National Parks Centre in Jindabyne.

Attractions in Thredbo are endless… While snow skiing is the most obvious choice to visit Thredbo it isn’t the only thing to be experience.

During the summer months, Thredbo's summer activities program runs over the Christmas Holidays and includes Guided walks through the spectacular mountains of the Kosciusko National Park, including wildflower walks, scenic chairlift ride, bobsled rides and supervised activities for children including wombat adventure safaris, fishing, and village sports. It is entertainment for the whole family! As well as mountain biking for all levels, horse riding, white water rafting, climbing and abseiling.

There are so many facilities for everyone at Thredbo, it is only a small community but still offers a lot to all its visitors. Place your kids in childcare for a couple of hours while you check out the fashion boutiques or frequent one of the many restaurants with something for anyone’s appetite. They also have nightclubs, bars, bottle shops, hairdresser, supermarket, chemist, post office, ski / board hire and repair shop and so much more. You will have everything you could possibly ask for while you enjoy your stay at Thredbo. You must also check out the Fireworks and Flare Run that is on every Saturday night. It is one of Thredbo finest traditions.

Don’t feel like skiing, then you must check out Thredbo’s Leisure Centre which has 4 x 50 and 4 x 25 metre indoor heated pool, waterslide, gym, squash and racquet ball court, climbing wall. As well as a sports hall offering games of volley ball, basketball, netball and badminton. This is a definite must if you feel like getting out of the cold for a little while.

You can also do a three hour tour called Snowshoeing Tours through the spectacular granites of the Ramshed Range or through the beautiful snow gums of Dead Horse Gap. Or you can scale a snowy mountain face using ice axes – not for the faint hearted!! With all technical gear, qualified guide, insurance and relevant permits included, just bring along your skis or snowshoes and prepare for the high altitude adventure of a lifetime.

But if skiing is just what you have come to Thredbo for, then you have come to the right place. With countless slopes and tracks to navigate you way down you will be completely satisfied. The longest run is 5.9km long and if get to the end of the day and the sun is going down then don’t despair because night facilities are running during the months of July through to August. Thredbo has also further increased the capacity of their already mighty snowmaking system. So even when mother nature hits the snooze button you can still be guaranteed to enjoy perfect snow skiing / boarding conditions.
