Discovering Vegan Gems in Sydney’s Bustling Food Scene
There was a time not so long ago in Sydney when ordering a vegan meal involved receiving a dish that was heavy on sprouts and pulse. But thankfully, all that has now changed.
In fact, Sydney is home to a plethora of plant-based eateries that exclusively cater to those who do not eat any food derived from animals.
From Abbotsford to Zetland, the Harbour City has an excellent range of culinary venues where vegans can enjoy a delightful meal.
So, if you have this dietary requirement and are planning a visit to the city (or are a resident of it) here are some places you should make a point of checking out.

ToggleVegan Meal Delivery Option
It must be noted that eating out in Sydney can be expensive, even for vegetarian and vegan meals. So, if you are visiting the city on holiday, you can quickly find yourself forking out a fair amount of money on restaurant fare.
For this reason, you might want to consider a ready-meal delivery service like Soulara Vegan Meals, which offers delicious chef-made plant-based meals supplied to your door weekly.
Their coco-mango Caribbean curry and Indian Mushroom Nuggie Saag are to die for. (You can thank us later for the heads up!).

Recommended Vegan Gems in Sydney
If you fancy eating out – and we recommend you do at least once if your budget stretches to it – here are some exceptional places you should try.
-
Gigi Pizzeria
Gigi Pizzeria has been a stalwart on the Sydney dining scene for many years now, and they used to make woodfired ‘regular’ pizzas with meat. However, in 2015, they reinvented their menu to be fully plant-based and are now seen by many as the go-to destination for vegan pizzas in the city.
Located in Newtown, their non-dairy pizzas will be a revelation – particularly for meat eaters trying something new.
A couple of great options here are the Salsiccia e Broccoli pizza, which has a chewy, soft base that is topped with crumbled mozzarella, sautéed broccoli, and beyond sausage, and the Calzone Speciale, which is filled with smoked slices, mushrooms, and ricotta.
Try to get here early, as there is usually a queue of hungry patrons snaking out the door.

Yulli’s
Yulli’s is an all-vegan spot that will impress you with its incredible food and quirky dining space.
One of the most popular dishes on the menu here is their Korean fried broccolini, which is coated, crispy, and light, yet really packs a flavour bomb, thanks to its delicious sticky, sweet Chilli sauce.
Their artisanal zucchini flowers have a sumptuous beetroot filling with a mustard dressing that will have your taste buds signing, while their kale and saltbush gyoza, complete with a rich, citrus drizzle, is incredibly moreish.
Whatever you decide to eat, you can pair your meals with any of the vegan wines from their Alexandria brewery.

Mina Maria
Formerly operating under the glorious name of ‘I Should Be Souvlaki’ (cue Kylie), Mina Maria is another favourite among Sydney vegans.
Run by the powerhouse team of Emma Langley and Adam Papastathopoulos, the menu here has recently been changed to provide diners with an elevated Euro-inspired gastronomic experience.
It is well worth booking here to avoid disappointment. But if you can get a table, make sure you try their signature ‘beef’ Wellington, which they serve with crispy potatoes, mushroom duxelles, and a rich peppercorn sauce.
A special shout-out should also be made to their tangy Russian potato salad, creamy mushroom stroganoff, and spinach and ‘feta’ spanakopita.
