There are around 350 permanent residents on the island. The island can be accessed from Australia by air from either Sydney or Brisbane. September to May is usually fine and mild with daytime temperatures rising to around 27°C and winter months are cooler and sometimes windy with maximums around 16°C. There are a number of accommodation options ranging from 4 to 85 beds. Visitor numbers are limited to 393 at any one time. Banking facilities are available through The Commonwealth, Colonial State and Westpac through agencies on the Island.
