Katoomba

Katoomba is the place most people think of when the Blue Mountains are mentioned. It is home to the most spectacular natural attractions in the area which include the Megalong and Jamieson Valleys, The Three Sisters, huge old hotels like the Carrington and the Hydro majestic, the Paragon cafe at the three sisters lookout, the Skyway and the Scenic railway. The area was first explored by, Wentworth and Lawson when they first crossed the Blue Mountains in 1813.

There are many things to see and do in Katoomba. Echo Point is first on the list. This location offers unsurpassed views of the Three Sisters, Mount Solitary, the Ruined Castle and the magnificent Jamieson Valley. Next on the visitors list should be the scenic Skyway. Here an aerial cable car will transport you across the Jamieson Valley, at times more than 275 metres above the valley floor. The views and the sensation you will experience will never be forgotten. It was first completed in 1958 and is now one of the top attractions in the district.

The next stop for the willing tourist should be the scenic railway and complete some of the magnificent bushwalks at its base. The railway descends some 230 metres into the Jamieson valley and caries up to 80 passengers. At the base there is a 300 metre boardwalk which extends into the rainforest and the start of several bushwalks of up to 12 kilometres return.
